People have been aware that the sun’s energy can be harnessed to power various devices and machines for years, but it is not until recently that the technology and the motivation has pushed people to seriously consider solar energy as a viable power source.
With the current state of the economy and with the growing move toward a more environmentally responsible lifestyle, many people are considering various forms of renewable energy and “green living” principals. Solar power is usually at the top of the list when it comes to renewable energy sources. Solar power has been used for years by the government and various businesses, but it has only recently come into the mainstream for the everyday average household.

Introduction:
Global warming impact to our quality and cost of living is large and very catastrophic. Homeowners are well aware of the increasing energy costs to heat, cool and illuminate their homes. The increasing costs of oil and other fossil fuels are daily headlines. The insatiable demand for energy to fuel world growth guarantees that the cost of these limited fuels will continue to increase. Political/economic forces will determine the rate of increase for fossil fuels. In addition, the increasing cost of global warming using fossil fuels is slowly being recognized.
The world is slowly beginning to understand the urgent need for renewable energy sources. However, each of these alternative energy sources brings major advantages and disadvantages. An example is wind generated energy. Wind energy is available to the whole world and generates electricity competitively with fossil fuels. The technology is understood and easy to apply. But, there are big objections to a windmill in “my back yard”. Also, the number of birds and bats that will be crushed with wind power generation is not a warming thought. Wind technology will be a component of our energy solution. However, because of the above concerns, we need other major more…

Since about the 1970’s-80’s, people all around the world have been using Solar Collectors to heat their water for a number of applications including domestic hot water (for showers, laundry, grooming, and washing dishes), radiant heating through floor or baseboard heaters to space heat their homes, and even to heat their pools to extend the swimming season earlier in the spring and later in the fall.
Heating your pool is a luxury, but that doesn’t mean that it should be so expensive that only the very rich can afford it. By using Solar Pool Heaters, the average American Household can heat their swimming pool for only a few hundred dollars, and without the high, and rising costs of traditional fossil fuels and heating sources like oil, natural gas, and electricity. Silicon Solar Inc carries a complete line of Solar Pool Heaters, available for every type and size pool in any location around the country.
For above ground pools, Silicon Solar carries two different pre-packaged Solar Pool Heaters, a 1 panel/40,000 BTU Solar Pool Heater, and a 2 panel/80,000 BTU Solar Pool Heater. If your pool needs a larger Solar Collector to heat the water due to its size, more…
I have been hearing dire prediction of things to come because of global warming and the fact we are running low on fossil fuels sources, there is a possibility of widespread blackouts next summer.
Why aren’t government buildings and all homes and commercial buildings that are located in areas that get so hot they require airconditioning required to install solar panels? Why isn’t it part of building codes?
In order to acheive independence from Fossil fuels like many want us to do. I was wondering how many windmills and solar panels would we need to generate the power necessary to be ‘green’. How long would we need to get such an infrastructure in place?

While solar farms and tax credits and fresh energy policies push their way to the solar forefront, rooftop photovoltaic systems have been lagging. Those within the solar industry may be boasting a predicted annual growth rate of 50%, but until local businesses and citizens are able to embrace solar energy over fossil fuels, the prediction may be just that.
The idea of solar farms seems somewhat contradictory in terms of providing a ‘greener’ source of energy; we’re already seeing the first fits of rushes to snag acreage for generating solar power. Isn’t one of the concepts of an eco-friendly future to re-use what you’ve already got? To get even more picky about it, the electricity generated by solar farms requires a greatly upgraded power grid in order to deliver the power from solar farms in rural areas into the cities. And the tax credits are a step in the right direction, but they still don’t make installing solar panels affordable for the average citizen. Luckily, there is a concept floating around that may assuage nit-pickers and sticklers for practicality like me: rooftop leasing for the use of photovoltaic systems which feed energy into the grid.

If you haven’t noticed, many utility companies have or are in the process of raising their rates for energy provided to their customers. My electric utility provider just told me that my electric bill will increase by 13%. That’s a huge price increase and I’d like to remove from Public Office whoever was responsible for allowing such an increase to happen to me and my neighbors.
Then again, maybe that huge increase won’t happen, due to the recent drop in the price of a barrel of crude oil to under $59.00 per barrel from over $140.00 within the month. Who knows what those oil companies plan to do next to us. However, my cost per gallon for gasoline is now less than half what it was a few weeks ago.
It is quite clear to me that a Government investigation is required to determine why those huge increases took place in the first place. A 300% price increase over the last few years, too me, is nothing more than extortion.
Be that as it may, to use the free energy that’s provided by our Sun certainly makes good sense to me. As such, you can convert that free energy more…
Solar power is one of the many ‘alternative’ fuel sources. Called alternative because it doesn’t require the burning off fossil fuels like oil, gas and coal, to produce energy. Solar energy does have the drawback of being reliant on weather, with clouds having a direct impact on the ability to produce energy effectively.
There are several variations of solar power systems and different methods of harnessing the all important rays of the sun. The sun can be successfully used to power many different electric products, a basic which everyone has seen and used is a solar powered calculator.
Another method of producing energy from the sun is to heat water. It is possible to demonstrate how one of the most basic forms of solar power works with a simple water heating device, created yourself. Many families seeking to be carbon neutral and living an altogether greener, more environmentally friendly life have done this and actually successfully use their own solar heated water to shower in. To show how this works is quite simple:
First you need to get a length of hose pipe, preferably a black hose but this can be painted black. Attach the hose more…
