greenNow, how cool is this. According to the Associated Press (news item below), the legislation currently grinding its way through the government process will actually create jobs and spur development in alternative and renewable energies.

This is exactly what needs to happen! Unless we can sweep away the tired old polluting energy systems that have brought us to the brink, there will never be the economic impetus to actually make green energy systems cost-effective.

Fundamentally changing our society’s mindset about how to generate and consume energy is the only way we can save the planet and ourselves from the doom of a trashed, depleted planet. Since we’re far more able right now to develop clean energy than we are to discover, colonize, and move a sizable portion of our population to a fresh new planet, I say let’s get cracking on green energy right now pronto!

Solar power is a safe and popular alternative source of energy. In simple words, solar power refers to the energy generated from sunlight. There are different methods for harnessing solar energy for your day-to-day needs. In recent years, there has been increased interest and talk about the benefits of solar power. The increased interest in solar power largely due to three factors: one is our escalating energy bills, second is our depleting fossil fuel reserves, and finally the environmental impact of burning fossil fuels.

Solar power addresses the concerns quite well because it uses sunlight for generating energy, which is available free, and it is harmless to the environment. This is why many domestic and commercial establishments are switching to solar power to meet their energy requirements. Moreover, solar power is of great value for use in remote locations where you do not have conventional sources of power. Solar power is also widely used by owners of Recreational Vehicles (RV) and luxury boats.

solar panels
SM asked:

It would be nice to go green but it needs to make sense money wise. We have a 1,300 square foot home on the beach home with plenty of sun. Our electric bill is 100 bucks a month give or take. How much will solar panels cost and how many solar panels will we need to effectively power our home.

a-Mazing i-House Cuts Solar Costs

Clayton i-HouseMove over, “trailer parks” and “manufactured home complexes”, you are yesterday’s news with your toxic outgassing, poor insulation and generally frumpy looks.

The new kid in town is Clayton’s “i-house”, an eco-friendly green building that includes solar power built into its design. Clayton Homes plans to price the “i-house” at $100 to $130 a square foot, depending on amenities and add-ons, such as additional bedrooms. A stick-built house with similar features could range from $200 to $300 a square foot to start.
